Volunteers Sought for Bataan Memorial March

Residents can sign up to volunteer for the upcoming 37th annual Bataan Memorial March to be held Saturday, March 21 at White Sands Missile Range. For more info see the event website here.

The 26.2-mile Bataan Memorial March commemorates the Bataan Death March, the brutal forced march of American and Filipino prisoners of war in the early months of America’s involvement in World War II. New Mexico claims a particular connection to the events, as approximately 1,800 New Mexicans, most of them members of the state’s 200^th National Guard, were on the Philippines when it was surrendered. Though heavily supported by WSMR staff and regional military assistance, the event functions largely on support from volunteers. See volunteer information here.
